In order to cook with us our program participants take our Food Handling training program, which includes the global gold standard, ServSafe. We work with interpreters to ensure that trainees fully understand all aspects of food safety and commercial kitchen navigation, regardless of their English language and literacy skills.
Uniquely, our training also addresses the cultural differences in food preparation, mindfully bringing traditional methods of food preparation to restaurant-level standards.
The bedrock of our training program is accessibility. Our cooks are always welcome to bring their children along, and scheduling is sensitive to other critical appointments such as Social Services meetings. Alongside word of mouth, our cooks join us through our relationship with the International Rescue Committee in Elizabeth, NJ.
